The Impossible Target! Art Dave Cockrum, story Cary Bates.
Chuck Taine aka Bouncing Boy is headed earthward in a mini cruiser after checking one of the Legion tracking station on the rim of the solar system, when he encounter a class -R meteor swarm. The meteors turn out to be camouflaged man made satellites forcing him to a small planet. He landed his cruiser on a fortress carved out of rock. Bouncing boy stepped out of the ship and is immediately captured by Adam Orin son of Otto Orin one of the greatest hunter in the galaxy who tried to capture the Legion. (See adventure comics # 358.) Not wanting to repeat his father's mistakes Adam says he is going to hunt the legion one at a time starting with the weakest member Bouncing Boy. He puts on magnetic boots and takes a bouncing boy balloon into a weightless room and blasts it, showing the round legionnaire his fate. He then takes him out side and tells him to run and hide he has one orbits time before the Hunter will come for him.
Chuck takes off and we get a montage panel of BB Swinging on what must be an industrial strength vine, and avoiding a couple of creatures. The hunter catches up to him as he plunges into an icy cold river. The hunter fishes out a shivering cold blue Bouncing boy and tows him back to the fortress. The Hunter gloats and places Chuck into the weightless chamber. Chuck shivering all this time, stops holding back and lets out a giant sneeze, that propels him into the opposite direction and he ricochet off the wall and lands on The hunter. Hunter cannot believe that he has been bagged by Bouncing Boy!
This was a great silly story, the only question I have is what happened to Bouncing boy's flight ring? It is never mentioned and would of came in handy. Adam Orion is not much of a villain and like Tyr will not return until the Baxter series.
Bits of legion Business.
First appearance of Adam Orion the Hunter.
